Negotiating for the best price:

When you come to buying a car you will have to negotiate the best price to get the most out of your money. When doing this you will need to take a number of thigs into consideration. These include:

  • You will normally be negotiating with an experienced sales person.
  • You will be negotiatiing on territory you may not be familiar with.
  • If you are having trouble getting credit you may feel you are been done a favor.

As a result of this you should make sure you are prepared before you go to a dealer and following these points you should be prepared.

You need to be in a frame of mind that you are not going to be "taken for a ride". Sales people can be very pushy and will often try to pressurize you into closing a sale. Most of the time they do this by simply structuring their sentences so they imply they are going out of their way to do you a special favor. You should think carfully about everything they offer you. You don't need to make a decision on anything immediatly. You should take your time and find the final details about what you are being offered.

If you don't know much about cars, you should educate yourself on the basics at least before you visit your dealer. They are trying to make money and so are not going to advertise the bad points about a vehicle on a billboard.

Just because you have bad credit doesn't mean you should be ripped off by a dealer that gets credit for you. You should consider yourself as an average customer and negotiate just the same. The FTC gives some good information for US visitors.
